Every day during the Christmas holidays we are profiling the winners of the recent Director of the Year Awards. Brady George, managing director, Almeda Facilities, won the Leadership in Corporate Responsibility Director award
After working in each department of the Bristol-based facilities management business since joining at the age of 23, George became managing director in 2015, still aged just 29. His new sales and marketing strategy brought 30 new business opportunities and saw staff numbers increase 75 per cent. Passionate about investing in charity and environmental projects, George has ensured the company plays a key role in recycling and waste reduction on the city’s harbourside. Here he offers his take on leadership.
What’s the key to great leadership? Having a vision that inspires people, attracting and retaining awesome talent, listening to them, then getting out of their way. Be authentic and don’t be afraid to show your vulnerability.
How has your leadership style evolved? I’d like to think that I’m much more relaxed now and that I mentor, support and guide. I listen much more than I talk these days. Everyone who knows me understands how challenging that is!
What advice would you give on leading in turbulent times? Believe in yourself, don’t compromise on your values or belief system. Challenging times enable us to grow. You should see it as an opportunity to grow as a leader and businessperson.
What’s the best talk you have seen? Tony Robbins’ – “Unleash the Power Within”.
What’s been the secret of your success? Enjoy what you do. It’s easy to do well in something you love. Almeda is a personal mission and our vision wakes me up early and keeps me up late. It’s not a job – it’s a personal necessity to live my dream.
How do you relax and recharge?
I run, meditate, read, and go on long walks with my partner and our daughter.
