The IoD Director of the Year Awards 2019 will honour the UK’s most outstanding business leaders at a grand final ceremony on 18 October at The Brewery in London. The shortlist of finalists in the Student Director of the Year category has now been announced – here are the stand out candidates

The Student Director of the Year award at the IoD Director of the Year Awards 2019 final recognises the student who has demonstrated director qualities in a project they have worked on for a business, in employment, or in an academic capacity. From hundreds of applicants this year, here are the six shortlisted nominees…

Sarah Campbell
Director and founder, Play Well For Life
“The company was created to bring an innovative approach to training wellbeing,” says Campbell. “It’s the result of my 10 years practice-based experience working in wellbeing, education and with corporates, a previous career in the music industry and a PhD in psychology researching music, emotions and wellbeing.”

 

Brendan Digney
Director, Machine Eye Technology
Digney is an electrical and electronic engineer, who studied at Queen’s University Belfast. His business, Machine Eye Technology, provides intelligent safety systems for plant and heavy machinery and has been recognised across the UK and Ireland, and recently New Zealand, as a leading start up in the AgTech sector.

 

Tavinia Hutchinson
Director, ZahMal London
“ZahMal London is a beauty and holistic company with a mission to Give the Organic Lifestyle Deserved [GOLD] to the UK through our treatments and products,” says Hutchinson. “With help from the IoD I have embraced a professional approach to networking and I am now growing into an extroverted business woman.”

 

Geoffrey Knott
Director and co-founder, HOP
“HOP’s mission is to give individuals more control over their long-term health and wellbeing through the foods they eat,” says Knott. “IoD Student Membership has been invaluable for business development resources – factsheets for example – and meeting countless wonderful people at events.”

 

Sarah McAnallen
Founder and CEO, McAnallen
“McAnallen is a socially responsible company, we offer a range of mobility products to help individuals live a more independent day to day life,” McAnallen explains. “My business and products were inspired by my mum, who had a stroke when I was young. We have an award-winning product range that helps with socks, buttons, bras and more.”

 

Rebecca O’Higgins
Digital Account Manager, SteadyGo
“My project is focused on sustainable commercial scaling activities for a micro or small sized company,” explains O’Higgins. “My IoD student membership provides me with high quality research resources that helped me to investigate, identify and clarify the actions in my commercial scaling plan.”
