The IoD has appointed Charlotte Valeur as its new chair. With a grounding in finance, including stints as director of the capital markets divisions of both BNP Paribas and Société Générale, she has also accumulated more than a decade of experience at the highest level in industries ranging from property to renewable energy.
She has served seven listed companies as a board director, including 3i Infrastructure and Kennedy Wilson Europe Real Estate, chairing three of them.
Hailing from Copenhagen and speaking six languages, Valeur has an extensive background in corporate governance, running her own advisory firm, the Global Governance Group.
In 2014 she founded not-for-profit organisation Board Apprentice to offer crucial boardroom experience to people of all backgrounds and, ultimately, increase diversity at director level.
“I see this as an immense privilege and an exciting opportunity,” she says of her appointment. “I want IoD membership to be a must-have for both established and aspiring directors.
“I look forward to supporting the institute’s work and broadcasting the fact that the world of business is open to all who have the talent and determination to succeed.”
