Vote for the UK national bird

Is the owl the UK national bird?

What do Twitter, Guinness and Liverpool FC have in common? They all have ornithological logos – and Brand Britain is joining them, thanks to a campaign by birdwatcher and broadcaster David Lindo to find the UK national bird.

Brits have until midnight on general election day (7 May) to vote from a list of feathered friends, including the barn owl, blackbird and – the winner in a Sixties survey in The Times – the robin.

Whether the winning creature will soar to the heights of the US’s bald eagle remains to be seen.
