Grant Jamieson is managing director of Winkworth and an IoD member. In the video above he discusses his sense of adventure and passion for pushing boundaries

Winkworth Machinery is the largest UK industrial mixer manufacturer. As Grant Jamieson explains: “We design and build machinery for blue-chip companies like Wrigley, Proctor & Gamble and Cadbury. We’re the backroom guys who mix their products.”

Winkworth’s mixers make a dizzying array of goods from concrete to chewing gum. When Jamieson arrived in 2008, at the height of the recession, he joined a company with a long and rich history that had been trading since 1924.

After nine years at the helm, he has overseen a business that has gone from strength to strength. In 2014, Winkworth moved to its current premises in Basingstoke – a state-of-the-art facility covering 30,000 sqft.

Jamieson has never been content to rest on his laurels.

“I’ve been a member of the IoD for over three years and I joined to increase my understanding of corporate governance,” he says.

He also has a passion for extreme sports. ‘I do windsurfing, surfing and mountain biking. Having a spirit of adventure and pushing my boundaries is in my blood!”

His adventures have even taken him as far afield as the world-famous ‘Top of the World’ trail at Whistler Mountain Bike Park in British Columbia.

We met Jamieson on the day of the IoD’s Annual Dinner, held the Lancaster Hotel, London. “Attending the Annual Dinner gives me an opportunity to take in views from other directors who face similar challenges from different industries.”
