The Salt Room – a smart new addition to Brighton

You can almost smell the ozone at The Salt Room – a smart new addition to Brighton’s seafront

The Salt Room is in a great spot for an after-lunch beach stroll, but, with its chic black chrome-and-glass frontage and cool interior, it’s definitely not a flip-flop and shorts venue.

The menu offers a good selection of sustainably sourced fishy favourites, including delicious cuttlefish fritters served with pickled sea vegetables and a piquant fish soup to start.

The shrimp and crab burger, surely destined to be its bestseller, comes with an array of trendy trimmings, such as charred gem lettuce, kimchi slaw, yuzu mayonnaise and samphire.

More refined palates will enjoy spiced monkfish with a pickled cauliflower garnish, yoghurt and ginger.

For dessert the hot chocolate mousse was more the former than the latter, but satisfyingly cocoa-rich nevertheless.
