Wish you were here? Jamaica's stunning Strawberry Hill is back in business
Strawberry Hill hotel and spa in the heart of the famous coffee-producing region, Jamaica's Blue Mountains, has reopened its doors following extensive refurbishment – and we think it's the perfect escape from the January blues.
Listed in the New York Times's 1,000 Places To See Before You Die, this mountain-top hideaway is 3,100ft above sea level offering magnificent views, fresh mountain air and, above all, seclusion.
The boutique property features a main house, 12 plantation-style cottages, a spa specialising in stress relief and body and soul rejuvenation, and a 60ft infinity pool with a panorama of Kingston below.
Originally an 18th century coffee plantation, Strawberry Hill was acquired in 1972 by Chris Blackwell, founder of the Island Records label that launched the career of reggae legend Bob Marley. Since then it has been a destination for famous musicians, the fashion elite and discerning travellers.
The cottages feature fully restored furnishings with brand new finishings such as exquisite hand-dyed linen by Royal Hut (founded by Blackwell's late wife Mary Vinson). The Aveda spa has new treatment beds and an extended list of therapies.
The restaurant menu has been refreshed to include a new take on Jamaican culinary favourites jerked meats and grilled fish and all the organic fruits, vegetables, meats and poultry used in the kitchens are sourced from the property's gardens and Blackwell's 1,000-acre farm, Pantrepant. This truly is the perfect, rejuvenating winter break.
