A new Hamburg hotel has gone overboard to offer a creative space to do business
Thinking of taking your team away for a conference, or perhaps you need an overseas escape to break a creative block? A new hotel in Hamburg will certainly take you to a different place altogether.
The quirky 25Hours Hotel HafenCity opened in July and is the first to be completed in the Uberseequartier, the rapidly developing waterfront district that will eventually increase the size of Hamburg's city centre by around 40 per cent.
In keeping with its watery neighbourhood, the hotel has been designed on a nautical theme – the inspiration for the interior being based on 25 stories gathered from sailors at a local seamen's club. The result includes cabin-style guest rooms (each with a sailor's yarn recorded in a log book), seafaring décor, a Radio Room business centre and meeting spaces for up to 200 people, including a conference room housed inside a converted shipping container.
The hotel, near the Elbe Philharmonic Hall, is a short walk from the downtown area. It's not your conventional business retreat, but if you're looking to chip away creative barnacles, try jumping aboard.
