Air New Zealand has announced plans to use biofuels for 10 per cent of its fuel consumption within the next five years. Chief executive Rob Fyfe said the airline would be using one million barrels of biofuel a year in its jet fleet by 2013. The carrier will run the first commercial jet trial of the fuel, extracted from the jatropha plant, in August. Coined a "wonder plant" due to the high oil content of its seeds, jatropha is cultivated in India and east Africa.
