Juergen Boos, the director of the Frankfurt Book Fair, which takes place annually in October, explains what makes it so special

The mixture of commerce, culture and socio-political debate makes it unique. Frankfurt is the world's largest book fair. We set our standards high—delivering this standard of service every year is a challenge. We try to meet the needs and interests of publishers from five continents and over 100 countries.

Publishers must be aware of where customers are, and deliver content in whichever forms the customer requests—books, audiobooks, ebooks, DVDs or online. This has consequences for all aspects of the trade, including generation of content, rights and licenses, marketing and sales and distribution.

We are keen to see new media as a major opportunity. A new addition is the Web 2.0 Living Room, a fun and interactive space for bloggers and podcasters.

Education is a rapidly growing sector and important from a global perspective. Delegates will join us to discuss educational publishing, literacy issues and lifelong learning and we will host the second annual LitCam—the international conference of the Frankfurt Book Fair Literacy Campaign.
